Biography

Laura A. Nodolf, Of Counsel

Laura Nodolf joined Borland Phiffer Law PLLC as Of Counsel in 2025. She brings more than 20 years of courtroom experience as a prosecutor for the State of Texas. Few attorneys in West Texas have spent as much time in front of juries. She now puts that experience to work for people and families who have been hurt by someone else's negligence.

Ms. Nodolf started her career at the Midland County District Attorney's Office. She served as an assistant district attorney, prosecuted misdemeanor and felony cases, and later became a trial team chief, handling cases from intake through verdict. In 2017, Midland County voters elected her District Attorney, and she held that office until she retired in 2024. As District Attorney, she represented the State of Texas in every criminal matter in the county. She led an office of five departments, more than 25 attorneys, a dozen investigators, and nearly 20 paralegals, which prosecuted more than 7,000 cases a year. Over her career, Ms. Nodolf has personally been involved in more than 200 jury trials and 145 bench trials, including a fifteen-week capital murder trial.

Since joining Borland Phiffer Law, Ms. Nodolf has been involved in every stage of civil litigation. She evaluates new cases and investigates claims. She drafts petitions and demand letters, conducts written discovery, and takes and defends depositions. She also works with medical, economic, and accident reconstruction experts, challenges unreliable defense experts, represents clients at mediation, and prepares cases for trial. Her clients get a lawyer who handles their case from the first meeting through resolution, backed by decades of trial experience.

That background matters to injured clients. She knows how to investigate a case, work with law enforcement and investigators, prepare witnesses, handle complex evidence, and present a clear, persuasive story to a jury. Insurance companies and defense attorneys settle cases based on what they think will happen at trial. Ms. Nodolf gives her clients the credibility of a lawyer who has spent her career trying cases and is ready to do it again.

Throughout her career, Ms. Nodolf has stood with people facing the worst days of their lives. After the 2019 mass shooting in Midland and Odessa, she helped coordinate the law enforcement response. She activated the Texas Rangers' State Critical Response Team and worked closely with the neighboring district attorney's office. She then drafted legislation and testified before the Texas House and Senate to improve how communities get accurate information during a crisis. Her work for victims earned her the 2024 Agency Award from the Midland Victims' Coalition and the 2024 President's Award from the Midland County Sheriff's Association.

Ms. Nodolf earned a Bachelor of Arts in History from Schreiner University in Kerrville, Texas, in 2000, and her Juris Doctor from Texas Tech University School of Law in 2003. She is licensed to practice in Texas and before the United States District Court for the Western District of Texas. She is a member of the Midland County Bar Association.
